Charleston Youth Winds founder and director, Krisy Marx, earned her Music Education degree from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. She has always had a passion for teaching young musicians and enjoyed teaching band, orchestra, and general music in the Fairfax County public schools in Fairfax, Virginia prior to relocating to Charleston with her family.

Krisy plays flute and alto flute. She performs with the Charleston Community Band, College of Charleston's Flute Choir, and her trio MP3 Flutes. As a result of her family's many military relocations throughout the states, Krisy has had the privilege to perform and record with various ensembles including the Symphonic Band of the Palm Beaches, Fairfax Wind Symphony, and the Main Street Community Band of Fairfax. She notes her most memorable performances were with the Honor Flight Band, welcoming WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam veterans to Washington D.C. to tour military and war memorials. Krisy also accompanies Sunday morning worship at Christ Church.

The Marx family relocated to Mount Pleasant after Krisy's husband, Aaron, retired from his active duty Marine Corps career. They have two children; Drew plays tuba and Audrey plays oboe. They are both in the Wando High School band and are active in Christ Church Youth.
